Burlington, Mass. August 1, 2002
Maptuit Corporation, the only company that provides truck-to-door, dynamic navigation services, today announced that Stevens Transport has reported a significant decrease in turn-related accidents since deploying FleetNav throughout their fleet.
Stevens Transport of Dallas, Texas, is one of North America's most widely respected and recognized irregular route refrigerated truckload carriers, servicing the contiguous 48 states, Mexico and Canada. This year through the end of July, using the Maptuit FleetNav service, Stevens has reduced the number of turning accidents by over 50%.
"In addition to other operational savings, the Maptuit FleetNav service is providing us with important safety benefits," says Matt Welding, Director of Quality Assurance for Stevens Transport. "FleetNav is very valuable to drivers when navigating major metropolitan areas. Because it's on demand, drivers can utilize the service whenever necessary which helps to avoid trouble spots that may cause accidents."
Maptuit FleetNav provides automated "truck-to-door" directions from the current location of the vehicle to the consignee or shipper's location. Maptuit's advanced routing technology is designed for heavy trucks. The algorithms account for the degree of turns, vehicle turning radius and class of road, while minimizing right hand turns and decision points. Maptuit's database of the truck road network of North America is continually being augmented with a growing list of restrictions, prohibitions, low-clearance locations, and bridge characteristics to ensure that the routes generated are "truck-friendly".
In addition to providing drivers with directions, FleetNav features easy-to-use reporting and management tools that enable a carrier's back-office staff to create and maintain detailed customer and delivery information, restrict roads from routing consideration, configure routing parameters, and preview routes.
