Cancom to offer Maptuit® FleetNav™ in-vehicle navigation system to its OmniTRACS customers
Mississauga and Toronto, Ont., Canada (June 20, 2002)
Cancom Tracking, a Shaw Communications Company (TSX: SJR.B and NYSE:SJR), the leader in mobile communications for the Canadian Transportation industry, has entered into an agreement with Maptuit Corporation of Toronto, Ontario, to resell the Maptuit FleetNav suite of services into the TruckLoad, LTL and Private Fleet market sectors throughout Canada. FleetNav is a navigation service that, when deployed with Cancom's OmniTRACS® technology, provides routing and driving instructions directly to drivers in their cabs - resulting in instructions and information that optimizes delivery and reduces non-revenue generating miles. By optimizing cost per hour, cost per mile and toll costs, Maptuit's service reduces non-revenue generating miles, saving carriers up to $200 per truck each month.
Based on the industry's most comprehensive model of the road network and enhanced with data that addresses the needs of truckload carriers, Maptuit FleetNav calculates the shortest and most expeditious way to travel on truck-friendly roads anywhere within North America. FleetNav integrates with Cancom's standard driver interfaces and MVPc™ wireless technologies, to provide door-to-door routes, travel time estimates and easy-to-follow directions, optimized to decrease miles driven and reduce travel time.
Using the most current position reports provided by OmniTRACS, drivers request directions directly from their mobile terminal and receive optimized directions to their load origin, destination, stop or service location right from their cab. FleetNav also provides web-based reporting tools to create and maintain precise geo-coordinates for all customers and delivery destinations. Maptuit FleetNav Alert provides customers with real-time alerts when trucks leave their assigned routes, enabling carriers to better control their fleets' performance and costs. FleetNav Alert tracks a vehicle's progress against a provided route, alerting the Driver Manager of an out of route condition.
"Cancom's OmniTRACS solution helps carriers improve productivity and increase operating efficiencies while providing safe transportation over the nation's highways" said Peter Bissonnette, President of Shaw Communications Inc."Partnering with Maptuit reinforces Cancom's commitment to providing cost-effective, value-added fleet solutions to the Canadian Transportation Industry," he continued.
"This relationship provides us with an opportunity to more rapidly address the needs of Canadian truckload carriers. Many Canadian carriers transport goods between Canada and the United States and this service provides them with routes that respect the US state and federal truck approved roads while reducing non-revenue generating miles" said Bill Tapscott, Managing Director for Maptuit.
